“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul”
~ Wassily Kandinsky
From wisteria purple to pomegranate red, we celebrate colour! It is such a significant part of my design process, especially when colours are merged together, creating magic through unexpected combinations.
The colour purple:
The wave of wisteria over our roof which reminded us of sweeties.

violet, jacaranda, amethyst, wisteria, lilac, iris
Shaded in blue:
I will never forget my mother’s turquoise beaded necklace which matched perfectly with her gentle blue eyes.

azure, aqua, turquoise, atlantic, ink, lapis, marine
Green: the colour of nature
The peace we feel when we walk under a canopy of trees is true bliss!

pistachio, emerald, olive, menthol, lawn, teal, wasabi
Yellow: the colour of sunshine!
As we passed an old oak tree each year as children on our way to our farm, we couldn’t wait to see whether the yellow ribbon was still tied around the trunk of the tree. We were intrigued as to who tied the yellow ribbon around the old oak tree….

canary, citrus, mimosa, banana, lemon, daffodil, ochre, primrose.
Orange: the colour of optimism
Displayed in all their glory on the shiny art deco counters of our favourite Portuguese cafe were large glass jars filled with orange coloured sweets in the shape of apricots. A joy to see and to eat! Our Dad would bring them home for a special treat!

tangerine, coral, mango, burnt orange, amber, apricot
Hues of red:
Eating pomegranates from our tree and thinking they were special jewels of glistening rubies in the sun.

Tomato, pomegranate, rose, salmon, peony, bougainvillea, paprika, petal, ruby, terracotta
Shades from the earth:
The shades and textures from the earth make a subtle yet powerful entrance in to our world of colour. The beautiful baskets woven in a rural coastal area outside of Durban bring back wonderful memories. The natural grasses were laid out in the sun to dry before the magic of weaving began. These amazing weavers would sing gentle Zulu lullabies to their young children while creating something beautiful with their hands from nature.
